MATT HOULIHAN

Matt was born and raised in San Jose, California. Houlihan started his volleyball career at St. Christopher Elementary School. He then continued on to St. Francis High School were he brought home the schools first ever WCAL and CCS boy's volleyball championships.
Houlihan competed for Bay to Bay as a player for 7 years earning two Junior Nationals Open All-Tournament awards as well as winning a Bronze medal at the 17-under Open age group.
Matt went on to University of the Pacific where he was the starting outside hitter and team captain. Matt was a 3-time Academic All-Conference selection, and was voted the Most Inspirational Player by his teammates 4 years in a row. Matt also served as the athletic director for Langston Hughes Academy in Stockton, CA while graduating with a degree in Sport Management and Business. Matt is entering his fourth season on staff as the Volunteer Assistant Coach with Stanford Men's Volleyball.
Throughout his club volleyball career, Matt has guided twelve teams to a top-5 finish or better at Junior Nationals including two gold medals, two silver medals, and four bronze medals. In 2020 Matt was awarded the Innovation and Net Works Award from the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) for his leadership and creativity in providing value for the volleyball community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
Matt is the 2020-2021 14-1s head coach. He also serves as a Lead Coach during the midweek skill practices and the club's Recruiting Coordinator to provide an on staff resource for players and parents regarding the college recruiting process. Learn more about Bay to Bay alumni, here!

ARIELLE HOULIHAN

A four-year letter winner in High School, Arielle was both the captain and the MVP for her team at Damascus High School in Damascus, MD. She led the hornets to the 4A State Finals, was a two-time First Team All-Gazette recipient, two-time All Met Washington Post recipient, and a two-time First Team DC Examiner recipient. Arielle also played for Metro American Volleyball Club, located in Washington D.C., before she went on to play for the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA.
Arielle also comes from a background of high level volleyball/athletics. Dad, Barry Goldberg, is a former Division I player at Pittsburgh and is the current head womens volleyball coach at American University. Mom, Bonnie Goldberg, is a former Division I collegiate player at American and Eastern Michigan. She also continued to play professionally in Switzerland and is now the director of the Capitol Hill Classic Volleyball Tournament in Washington DC. Brother, Jared played Division I volleyball at Grand Canyon and is currently an assistant for the mens and womens team at Harvard University. Brother, Mitch, currently coaches Division I lacrosse at the University of Richmond.
In 2020, Arielle was named to the AVCA's prestigious 30-under-30 and was also a finalist for the Club Director of the Year. Arielle is in charge of planning, directing, and coordinating all supportive services for Bay to Bay. She also serves as the clubs recruiting coordinator and club's setters coach, developing curriculum and training techniques for coaches and running weekly training sessions with Bay to Bay setters.
Throughout her coaching career she has led 7 teams to a top-5 finish or better at Junior Nationals: including head coaching the 2018 Bay to Bay 17-1's to a National Championship. Arielle will serve as the 16-1's head coach for the 2020-21 season.
