Region Championships Recap

The end of the Power League season brought out some great competition for all fifteen Bay to Bay teams. Twelve teams competed in the NCVA Region Championships and three teams competed in Anaheim at the SCVA Holiday Classic. Check out how the teams fared in the last tournament before January bid season!

 

Bay to Bay 12-1

The 12-1's finished out the Power League season as the #10 overall team in the 14-under division. Coach Evan and Lacey's team have executed the "X" defense to perfection, moving their middle back defender into the center of the court and their wing defenders into the corners to defend against the taller and harder hitting teams.


Bay to Bay 13-1

The 13-1's took home the Region Championship in the 14-under division this past weekend. Throughout the course of the season the 13-1's have gone 26-4 in the 14-under division and will look to carry that momentum into the Far Western Qualifier.

Bay to Bay 13-2

Coach Josh and Dalton's team finished Power League at #13 overall. They are the third ranked 13's team overall and have continually battled with the top-10 seeds in 14's. The boys will finish out the Fall portion of the season in the 13's division of Far Westerns.

Bay to Bay 14-1

The 14-1's travelled down south to participate in the SCVA Boy's Holiday Classic. Coach Frank and Allie's team went 6-1, finishing 5th overall. They lost a close one set playoff match against a strong SCVC team in the first round of Gold. The 14's will look to earn an 14-Open bid during the NCVA Far Western Qualifier.


Bay to Bay 14-2

The 14-2's finished out Region Championships in 6th place after coming in third in a tough 4-team play in pool. Coach Ricardo and Jon's team have had multiple strong performances throughout the course of Power League, earning themselves a top-4 ranking leading into Qualifier season.

Coach Ryan and Chris' team finished in 8th place at Region Championships. This group has been such a fun team to watch, with a variety of personalities continually finding ways to improve and elevate their teams play.


Bay to Bay 15-1

The 15-1's lost a battle in the finals of 16-under Region Championships. Throughout the course of Power League, the 15-1's went 26-4 overall. They will compete at Far Westerns in San Mateo and the Winter Championship in Chicago this January.

Bay to Bay 15-2

The 15-2's finished Region Championships in 18th place, a 1 seed improvement from their starting position. Coach Todd Harrison helped fill in while Coach Peter was out of town and the boys didn't skip a beat!


Bay to Bay 15-Club

Coach Jarrod's squad started the tournament off blazing hot, coming in as the #30 seed, the team went 4-0 on day one and moved into the top half of the tournament. From there, they dropped a couple close matches but finished out the tournament in 28th place, a 2 seed improvement.


Bay to Bay 16-1

The 16-1's travelled down south to compete in the SCVA Holiday Classic where they went 6-1, losing in the first round of the Gold division. Coach Steve and Javi praised the trip as a positive stepping stone for the team during the Fall portion of the season. The 16-1's will compete next for a 16-Open bid at Far Westerns in San Mateo.

Bay to Bay 16-2

Coach Chris and Ryan's team finished Region Championships in 9th place. The team went 3-0 on Saturday, and then split their next 4 matches; losing two close 3-set battles to narrowly miss the Gold bracket. Coach Chris commented, "Event though we dropped from the 6th seed, there was huge growth as a team. Fun to watch; both offensively and defensively brilliant at times." The boys will look to build on this finish as they get set to compete at Far Westerns in January.


Bay to Bay 17-1

The 17-1's took their momentum from a strong Power League showing down South this past weekend to compete at the Holiday Classic in Anaheim. The boys swept their morning pool and then fell just short in two close matches in their PM pool. From there, the team was positioned into the Bronze bracket where they went 2-0 to secure a 19th place finish.


Bay to Bay 17-2

Coach Mark and Kevin's team fell short in four 3-set matches during the course of the tournament and finished Region Championships in 32nd place. The boys will look to rebound as they finish out the Fall portion of the season at Far Westerns in San Mateo.


Bay to Bay 18-1

The 18-1's went 7-1 on the weekend, losing a very entertaining finals matchup this past weekend. The 18's tournament was played at San Jose Convention Center in conjunction with the NCVA Girls 18-under Power League Qualifier. This made for some big crowds, including the final match which was about 8 rows deep with people watching. The 18's will compete at Far Westerns and Chicago in January.

Bay to Bay 18-2

The 18-2's finished the tournament in 9th place, going 6-2 on the weekend. The lost a close 3-set match which propelled them into the Bronze division where they won all remaining matches. Coach Josh and Sam's team will compete for an Open bid at Far Westerns and Chicago Winter Championships this January.

7:30 - 8:30 pm open gym for all Bay to Bay players, coaches, and alumni
8:30 - 9:30 pm the 18-1's will take on our alumni team in a sure to be entertaining match (the alumni have already begun their trash talking)
